Glenn Trotter started judo around 2003. He was already studying several other martial arts but felt they lacked realism in practical application. After he began training in judo, he chose to forgo training in all others so that he could focus purely on judo. He started training originally in Mississippi. Glenn later joined the Air Force and his judo training was interrupted while he was serving.  After completing his enlistment with the Air Force, Glenn began traveling to Japan to study judo at the Tokyo Kodokan and Osaka Kodokan. Eventually, he moved to Osaka, Japan to train judo full-time on a cultural exchange visa. While training primarily at the Osaka Kodokan, he also trained at the Shudokan, and a local high school. Per his visa requirements, he had to compete in at least one tournament every month. He earned his shodan in 2008 and nidan in 2009, all by competing. During his competition run in Japan, Glenn won a bronze medal at the Osaka Mayor's Cup (shodan division), went on a judo competition tour, that included a tournament against the Emperor's guards at the Imperial Palace Judojo, and was a stunt actor for NHK television for a documentary on Jigoro Kano.

After getting married in Japan, Glenn moved back to the USA via Honolulu, Hawaii. There he trained at both the Hodokan and the University of Hawaii in Manoa. Later, he moved to the Saint Louis area and joined White Dragon Judo Club in 2014. He eventually became a club coach and earned his sandan in 2022. He also enjoys lifting weights, training jiujitsu, and taking his daughter to gymnastics and the park.
